Harrison Band Announcements

Excitement is building for the band's performance on the Harrison Winter Program on December 14th- please note that the band will perform on the 9:30 am program only!  CLICK HERE to download the line-up for the band. This sheet outlines the music that will be performed on the Winter Program. The goal with this music is to practice it at home in order to perfect every aspect (correct notes, correct rhythm, superior tone quality). Don't be surprised if you hear these songs over and over while your child is practicing at home this time of year!

To help students practice at home there are backing tracks available. You can download these tracks from the box at the bottom of this page labeled Harrison Band Documents.

In addition to the Winter Program music, beginning students are working on mastering their 7th note on page 12 in their Sound Innovations book. Beginning students are also practicing their note naming skills through timed "races." Please ask your child how they did on their note name race. Advanced students are focusing on playing accurate articulations and playing in the key of Ab Major.

Practice is an essential component to building any skill. Learning to play a band instrument is no exception. Beginning band students should be practicing about 10-15 minutes a day (total of about 60-80 minutes per week). Advanced band students should be practicing about 15-20 minutes a day (total of about 80-100 minutes per week). Students should keep track of their practice time on the band calendar. The practice time that is written on the calendar will also help students earn extra merit points in the Harrison "Principal's Own" Band Achievement Program.

Are you confused about what day your child should bring their instrument to school for band lessons? Trust me- you are not the only one! To help students and parents remember to bring their instruments on the correct days I will be using the Remind app this year. Please see the letter in the HARRISON BAND DOCUMENTS section at the bottom of this page for instructions on how to sign up for this email/text message reminder service. Signing up is completely voluntary but may be a great way to help you and your child plan more efficiently for band lesson days.

Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions you have about band lessons.
