Goal Area: Mathematics

Focus Skill(s): Number Sense and Geometry/Measurement

Strategy:     

  • Building level PD (staff meetings and GLMs) related to CPA method and best practice strategies for teaching basic number sense
  • Mental calculations
  • Understanding place value
  • Problem solving
  • Gradual Release with skills groups during guided and independent practice 
  • Continuation of the integration of Geometric concepts and vocabulary into every day teaching, across content areas
  • Coaching observations and follow-up and feedback in grade level meetings
  • Implementation of Kagan Cooperative learning structures for overall increased engagement – active student engagement increases achievement

Goal Area: Reading

Focus Skill(s): Comprehension

Strategy:

  • Continued focus on summarizing (narrative and expository) (Building level PD)
  • Implementation of building wide specific graphic organizers
  • Think-Pair-Square-Share
  • Implementation of Kagan Cooperative learning structures for overall increased engagement – active student engagement increases achievement
  • Building level PD (staff meetings and GLMs) related to teaching Nonfiction Text Structures and Text Features

Measurable Objective (growth goal): Stretch Goal TBD – All subgroups will increase NeSA-R scores by 5%

 

Goal Area: Writing

Focus Skill(s): Sentence Fluency, Word Choice and Conventions

Strategy: 

  • Implementation and training for Lucy Calkins’ writing units (K-3)
  • Building level PD (staff meetings and GLMs) related to Writers’ Workshops 
  • Gradual Release with skills groups during guided and independent practice 
  • Implementation of writing rubrics across grade levels to reinforce performance expectations of all writing traits
  • Implementation of Kagan Cooperative learning structures for overall increased engagement – active student engagement increases achievement 

 

Measurable Objective (growth goal): Goal will be added

Goal Area: Attendance 

Focus: Reducing Tardiness

Strategy: 

  • Parent contact by building administration after five tardy incidences
  • Counselor sessions on importance of being to school on time
  • Incentives for students who have zero tardies
  •  Newsletter information to parents on detriments of tardiness and excessive absences

 

Measurable Objective (stretch goal): During the 2013-14 school year, sixty-nine percent of students will miss fewer than five days.  (Fifty-nine percent of students missed fewer than 5 days during the 2012-13 school year.)
